How To Say Pretty In American English

MichaelADAmerican English Pronunciation

🤔 PRETTY

Are you saying this word naturally?

A lot of English learners make this mistake, but it’s easy to fix.

In American English, we say: PRI-dē

The T sound is reduced to a weak D sound: PRI-dē

It’s not: PRET-TY.  It’s PRI-dē

The first syllable is stressed: PRI-dē

That’s much smoother: PRI-dē

  • She’s so PRI-dē
  • What a PRI-dē flower
  • This is PRI-dē interesting.
  • I was PRI-dē tired last night.

Let’s practice together. I’ll say blue. You say green. Ready?

  • PRI-dē
  • She’s so PRI-dē
  • What a PRI-dē flower
  • This is PRI-dē interesting.
  • I was PRI-dē tired last night.
