Are you saying this word wrong?
A lot of English learners make this mistake, but it’s easy to fix.
In American English, we say: BUR-ger.
It’s not: BOOR-ger. It’s: BUR-ger.
There are two syllables:Â BUR-ger.
The stress is on the first syllable: BUR-ger.
For the first syllable, use the American ER sound: BUR.
Then keep the second syllable short and weak: ger.
Put it together: BUR-ger.
- I want a BUR-ger.
- He ordered a cheeseburger.
- This BUR-ger is really good.
- Where can I get a good BUR-ger?
Let’s practice. I’ll say blue. You say green.
