What’s the difference between challenge and try?
In English you can challenge another person, but we don’t challenge a thing or an object. In that case you can use try. You can try something or try doing something.
Here are some example sentences using the challenge. Remember, you can challenge a person or challenge or group of people:
- I challenge you to a game of tennis.
- The boss challenged the sales team to exceed last month’s sales figures.
Here are some examples using try. Remember you can try something or try doing something.
- Next month I’m going to try taking the TOEIC exam.
- That curry looks pretty spicy, but I think I’m going to try it anyway.
Keep in mind the best way to remember this or any vocabulary in English is to take the word or phrase write it in a sentence that’s true for you or true in your world and then memorize your sentences.
You can even take your sentences and write them in the comments below. I would love to see your examples.
