What does the phrasal verb PAY BACK mean?

the phrasal verb Pay back means to return money that was borrowed or settle a debt. We use “pay back” when we give someone back the money we owe them.

Here are some examples using pay back with this meaning:

  • Lisa promised to pay back the loan to her friend by the end of the month.
  • Mark borrowed some money from his brother and now he needs to pay him back.
  • Emily finally paid back the amount she owed to the bank after several months of saving.
