When you feel that something is very expensive….or even too expensive, you can describe that feeling with an idiom: To Pay An Arm And A Leg. Imagine that something is so expensive that you can only pay by giving one or two of your body parts! That would be something very expensive! You can say that you pay an arm and a leg or that something costs an arm and a leg.

  • I paid an arm and a leg for a bottle of water at the stadium!
  • In New York City, a steak dinner costs an arm and a leg.
